Officers from the Mount Vernon Police Department responded to a South 9th Avenue apartment building shortly before 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, where there was a report of a motor vehicle crash.
Police said that upon arrival, officers found a 38-year-old man from Mount Vernon on the ground outside of his car with a gunshot wound to the head. The man was treated at the scene until paramedics arrived to take him to a local hospital. The man was admitted and was in stable, but critical condition on Thursday, June 13.
“This unacceptable behavior will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas said on Thursday. “Just last weekend we observed a commemoration to those who have lost loved ones to gun violence, which strengthened our commitment to finding the suspect in this repulsive crime.”
Mount Vernon Police Chief Richton Ziadie added, “the Mount Vernon Police Department will not tolerate these senseless acts of violence and disregard for the law in our city. The men and women of the Mount Vernon Police Department will work vigorously and diligently to bring to justice anyone committing these types of crimes.”
